Not Sure If You Should Repair Or Replace Your AC? Consider this; if you have an inefficient system that breaks down every one to two years, it is likely that it is going to break down again. That means more expensive repairs and service calls or possible damage to the other parts of your home heating and cooling systems. Also consider the yearly maintenance cost factor. You could save up to 60% on your yearly energy bills with a new highly efficiency air conditioner or heater. Even if your air conditioner is only five to ten years old, it could be inefficient by today’s energy efficiency standards. Installing a new highly engergy efficiency air conditioning system or heater systems can actually pay for itself with the yearly energy savings within a relatively short time, not to mention all that money you’ll save not having to constantly call a heat and air conditioning repair contractor.

We specialize in furnace replacement, installation and repair.
Indoor air pollution is among the top five environmental health risks. Usually the best way to address this risk is to control or eliminate the sources of pollutants and ventilate a home with clean outdoor air. But opportunities for ventilation may be limited by weather conditions or by contaminants in the outdoor air. If the usual methods of addressing indoor air pollution are insufficient, air-cleaning devices may be useful. Air filters and other air-cleaning devices are designed to remove pollutants from indoor air.
Some are installed in the ductwork of a home’s central heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system to clean the air in the entire house. Portable room air cleaners can be used to clean the air in a single room or in specific areas, but they are not intended to filter the air in the whole house. Air-cleaning devices are categorized by the type of pollutants particulate and gaseous that the device is designed to remove or destroy.
Home Air Purifiers
We can help you understand differences between each kind of air cleaner, purifier, and filter, how they can help you achieve the best indoor air quality and what makes sense for your home. A whole house air purification system is worth learning more about. Not only does it attack all three classes of indoor air contaminants, but it has an air filter MERV Rating of 16, removing over 95% of particles down to .3 microns.
- HEPA Filters
- Media Air Cleaners
- Electronic Air Cleaners
- Basic Air Cleaners
- Air Filter MERV Ratings
Air purifiers use an ionization chamber, which is a thorough and air–tight way of improving your indoor air quality. As dust passes through the chamber during the regular running of your heater or air conditioner, the ionization field causes it to stick the sides of the walls, leaving the clean air free to enter the duct system and your home.
HEPA Filter Systems
HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. Our HEPA filters remove a broad range of airborne contaminants including fine dusts, smoke, pollen, soot, and bacteria. HEPA filters can aid in trapping these nuisances and alleviating many symptoms for allergy sufferers. Although the filters can help tremendously. A HEPA filter is a type of mechanical filter that traps harmful particles such as pollen, dust mites and pet dander by forcing air through a fine mesh and not allowing the allergens to escape back into the home. It can also remove many toxic microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and mold spores. A genuine HEPA filtration system will channel 99.97% of particles at .3 microns (300 times smaller than the average human hair). In a nutshell, HEPA filtration traps dust several hundred times smaller than a regular filtration system can.
HEPA filters can reduce:
- Tobacco Smoke
- Dirt Particles
Tips from the Pro’s.
When buying an air conditioner, look for a model with a high efficiency. Central air conditioners are rated according to their seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER). SEER indicates the relative amount of energy needed to provide a specific cooling output. Many older systems have SEER ratings of 6 or less.
If your air conditioner is old, consider buying an energy-efficient model. Look for the ENERGY STAR® and Energy Guide labels — qualified central units are about 15% more efficient than standard models. New residential central air conditioner standards went into effect on January 1, 2015; see the efficiency standards for central air conditioners for details, and consider purchasing a system with a higher SEER than the minimum for greater savings.
The standards do not require you to change your existing central air conditioning units, and replacement parts and services should still be available for your home’s systems. The “lifespan” of a central air conditioner is about 15 to 20 years. Manufacturers typically continue to support existing equipment by making replacement parts available and honoring maintenance contracts after the new standard goes into effect.
When thinking about energy efficiency, one of the most important decisions to be made regarding a new home is the type of heating and cooling system to install. Equally critical to consider is the selection of the heating and cooling contractor. The operating efficiency of a system depends as much on proper installation as it does on the performance rating of the equipment.
Improper design and improper installation of the HVAC system have negative impacts on personal comfort and on energy bills. Improper design and installation of a HVAC system can dramatically degrade the quality of air in a home. Poorly designed and poorly installed ducts can create dangerous conditions that may reduce comfort, degrade indoor air quality, or even threaten the health of the homeowners.
Keys to obtaining design efficiency of a system in the field include:
- Sizing the system for the specific heating and cooling load of the home being built;
- Proper selection and proper installation of controls;
- Correctly charging the unit with the proper amount of refrigerant;
- Sizing and designing the layout of the ductwork or piping for maximizing energy efficiency; and Insulating and sealing all ductwork.
Two types of heating systems are most common in a new home: forced-air or radiant, with forced-air being used in the majority of the homes. The heat source is either a furnace, which burns a gas, or an electric heat pump. Furnaces are generally installed with central air conditioners. Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling. Some heating systems have an integrated water heating system.
